It has been unoffical for several months now, but I regret that I must now officially withdraw from online fandom...not just LotR, but all of it. I cannot go in to the various reasons, but I will always miss and treasure the kind and talented friends I've made here. This will be my last post.

1:51 am - Woo, with very much hoo!
Just finished betaing my Dad's final paper (he's the smartest man I know, but still cannot figure out what one does with colons and semi-colons) and sent it off to the professorial type person. His Masters Degree is now complete, and he graduates June 1 with big honour thingies!

Congratulations Daddy!

Mwah! Big hugs and kisses! Knew you could do it!

10:19 am - Beating a Dead Horse Won't Make Me Cry
Just watched both A.I. and Rudy. Quite the lesson about how a big budget and a big-name director don't always assure quality.

Warning: Spoilers ahead for both moviesCollapse )

I know some great people, the kind of people you'd read about in Hallmark cards, except that Hallmark doesn't like to write about the things that are Really Cool about these people. You know, the kind of people where...Collapse )

11:21 pm - Assorted silliness...
The Washington Post publishes a yearly contest in which readers are asked to supply alternate meanings for various words. The following were some of this year's winning entries:

2. Flabbergasted (adj.), appalled over how much weight you have gained.
3. Abdicate (v.), to give up all hope of ever having a flat stomach.
4. Esplanade (v.), to attempt an explanation while drunk.
5. Willy-nilly (adj.), impotent
6. Negligent (adj.), describes a condition in which you
absentmindedly answer the door in your nightie.
7. Lymph (v.), to walk with a lisp.
8. Gargoyle (n.), an olive-flavoured mouthwash.
9. Flatulence (n.) the emergency vehicle that picks you up after you are run over by a steamroller.
10. Balderdash (n.), a rapidly receding hairline.
11. Testicle (n.), a humorous question on an exam.
12. Rectitude (n.), the formal, dignified demeanour assumed by a proctologist immediately before he examines you.

Have been thinking recently about swearing in Middle Earth, and about the difference between the use and nature of curses and that of explitives.

And yes, for the record, I'm a verbal geek. Your point?Collapse )

Things I have learned making LOTR music videos

* Peter Jackson has a serious fetish for Elijah Wood's eyes
* The longest shot of Merry alone is 2.18 seconds
* The longest shot of Frodo alone is 39.56 seconds
* Legolas has three facial expressions.
1) Serene
2) Mildly Disturbed Yet Serene
3) Balrog
* Hobbits can't keep their hands to themselves
* The Men of Middle Earth have serious bad hair issues
* Sam heals faster than any Elf
* Watching a battle frame by frame is funny as all hell
* Watching too many hand-held-camera-filmed battle sequences in a row will give you motion sickness
* Celene Dion is the spawn of the Devil
* Sarah McLachlan's songs can be fit to bloody near anything
* You can watch the boat scene thirty times in one evening and still tear up
* Merry and Pippin apparently share most key brain cells. Their synchronization is at times truly worrysome.
* If Sam is within fifty metres of Frodo, he WILL be looking at him.
* If Sam is not within fifty metres of Frodo, or in some way forced NOT to look at him, he WILL be distraught about it.
* Acne is still an issue whether you're 50 or 3000.
* Aragorn's stubble is always precisely the same length.
* If you watch the Weathertop sequence enough times, the neighbors will bang on the walls. After all, the Ringwraith got his shoulder, not his lungs.

And finally....

* Windows Movie Maker should come with a Surgeon General's warning. "Addictive" does not even begin to cover it.

I swore I wouldn't touch The Zeke's Mouse Debate with a ten foot pole. I did, I did. I'm friends with people on both sides of it, after all.

But...*sigh*Collapse )
